Beverly Josephine Brede, nee Head, born Sunday, September 14, 1941, in Waverly, KY, the oldest of 7 children, passed away Monday, August 18, 2025.
Bev moved to Belleville at the age of 12 where she attended and met her life long friends at St. Henry's Catholic Grade School. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in Belleville, IL in 1959. She married and raised her three children while helping her husband run his photography business. She then went on to open her own successful flooring business, Custom Carpet and operated it for 40 years before retiring.
Throughout her life, she had a love for food and traveling. She often took her family members along for vacations, making many memories doing what she loved. She was the matriarch of a large, close and loving family. She loved to host and cook for holidays and Sunday dinners. She was the glue that brought everyone together. Her genuine interest in others allowed her to make meaningful friendships everywhere she went, making you feel like family. She was a great listener and never too busy to help. She also loved to tell anyone that would listen about her children, grandchildren and the lights of her life, her great grandchildren (she was Gigi to them). Gigi loved to spread joy to others, never forgetting a birthday or anniversary. She sent cards and care packages all over the country to everyone on their special day. Our Gigi will be missed always and thought of often. We love you Gigi.
Bev was preceded in death by her ex-husband, James Brede, parents, Kathleen, nee Rapier, and Phillip David Head; brother, Phillip David Head Jr.; sisters, Jeannie Szewczyk, and Kathleen Head; nieces, Kristen Siebert, nee Kopald, Andrea Jackson, nee Szewzyk, and Kimmy Head; and nephew, Matthew Szewzyk.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie (David) Scobbie of Belleville, IL; sons, James (Lori) Brede of Millstadt, IL, David (Kathy) Brede of Boise, ID; grandchildren, Jason (Kelly) Scobbie of Nottingham, NH, Jennifer (Orion) Wymer, nee Curtis, of Belleville, IL, Heather Scobbie of Belleville, IL, Steven (Lindsey) Brede of Smithton, IL, Sarah (Michael Johnson) Brede of Belleville, IL, Alexis (Erich) Pilz, nee Brede, of Carterville, IL, Nicholas Brede of Belleville, IL, Kayla Brede of Collinsville, IL; the lights of her life, her 16 great-grandchildren; siblings, Charles "Buddy" (Mollie) Head of Santa Rosa, CA, Victoria Loeffler of Raleigh, NC, Michelle (Nick Geibel) Head of Smithton, IL; sister-in-law, Marsha Head of Belleville, IL; her best friends of 70 years, Mary Eitzenhefer, Jeanette Yelinek, Joan Springer; her caregivers for the last several years, Stacy Clark, Latrice Cooper; those she loved like her own, Lana (Carl) Brede of Belleville, IL, Leigha (Jon) Wetter, nee Brede, of St. Peters, MO, Kevin (Jean) Walk of Millstadt, IL, Thomas Curtis of Belleville, IL, and her loving nieces and nephews.
