Beverly Jean Cohick, 87, of Roaring Branch, passed away on Thursday morning, September 5, 2024, in her home while surrounded by her loving family. Beverly was born July 23,1937 in Blossburg, a daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy E. (McDermott) Carey. She attended school in Blossburg and was a lifelong resident of Tioga County. On October 23, 1955, Beverly Jean Carey married the love of her life, Marlin W. Cohick in the Blossburg Alliance Church. Together they shared nearly 69 years of a loving marriage raising seven children.
Jean, also affectionally known as "Aunt Sis", was a hard worker and farmed, milked cows, raised veal and beef calves and was an area in home caregiver for several years. In earlier years, she taught Sunday School at the Blossburg Alliance Church and was a Deaconess for 45 years. Most lately, Jean was very active serving as a Deaconess of the Ogdensburg Church of Christ, where she cleaned for 28 years. Jean enjoyed sewing, helping her husband on the family farm, completing "Search a Word" puzzles, watching her hummingbirds and reading. She was known for growing her own garden, freezing or canning food to feed her family and baking her famous cookies for family and friends. Jean loved raising her kids and being a second "mom" to many others. She loved children and was always there to lend a helping hand with whatever was needed, whether it was potty training, (by bribing with her favorite candy, M&M's), or allowing grandchildren/nieces or nephews to come stay for various reasons.
Surviving Jean is her husband; Marlin, siblings: Carol Chamberlain, Mainesburg, PA, and Glenda Sherant, Arnot, PA, children; Anthony (Cathy) Cohick, Ogdensburg, Melony (Rusty) Schrader, Canton, Tom (Dawn) Cohick of Gloucester, VA, Mechelle Williams of Newport News, VA, Melinda (Phil) Kilgore, of Piney Flats, TN and Timothy (Sharon) Cohick, of Lynchburg, VA. In addition, Jean leaves behind 28 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by siblings; Margaret Davis, Joe Carey, Debbie Hurlocker, Karen Harbold, Lois Wandell, Richard Carey and Donna Peffer, son; Tyler Cohick and grandsons; Matt Cohick and Brett Cohick.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Ogdensburg Church of Christ on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at 3pm. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Ogdensburg Church of Christ.
