Marion R. Kuser, 95, a long-time resident of Roaring Branch, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the Bradford County Manor in Burlington, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on July 20, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Nellie (Zeigler) Richter.
Marion built a life centered on family and hard work. On December 7, 1949, she married Felix "Buck" Thompson. They shared 14 years together before his passing on April 26, 1964. On February 11, 1969, she married Willard "Sam" Kuser, with whom she shared nearly 38 years of love, life, and travel until his passing on January 18, 2007.
For 32 years, Marion was a familiar face as a banker at the Canton Bank. She also dedicated her time to the family business, assisting her husband, Sam, with Kuser Well Drilling.
Marion will be remembered for her impeccable style and poise; she was always sharply dressed with her hair perfectly styled by her lifelong friend and favorite beautician, Bernita. She found joy in simple pleasures, famously declaring that "there was no such thing as a bad cookie!" Marion's love for a good cup of coffee and a cookie was well-known, as was her fondness for the Midway Truckstop, where she was a regular customer until her health no longer permitted.
Marion's legacy continues through her loving family. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Kelley of Canton, and her son, Walt (Avie) Thompson of Roaring Branch; seven grandchildren: Gary Avery, Gerry (Tracey) Avery, Mike (Michelle) Kelley, Coleman (Ryan) Kelley, Kati Kelley, Michelle (Tim) Ward, and Melissa (Nick Rockwell) Proseus; thirteen great-grandchildren: Madden Putnam, Wiley Trobaugh, Cora Trobaugh, Alexander Avery, Cameron Avery, Beatrice Avery, Kayla (Jed) Wright, Brooke (Clark) Jackson, Timmy Ward, Emmy Ward, Blaine (Niki) Neuhard, Samantha (Dennis Saar) Proseus, and Henry Proseus; and three great-great-grandchildren: Sonny and Shay Wright, and Grant Jackson. Marion is also survived by several cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Felix and Willard; her infant son, Gordon, who was born sleeping on October 19, 1952; and her five siblings: Charles, Evelyn, Virginia, Louise, and George.
In accordance with Marion's wishes, there will be no funeral services. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
