Douglas W. Greene, 72, of Canton, passed away at his home on Monday, February 9, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Douglas William was born on May 6, 1953, in Troy, a son of the Martha (Brown) Covey and the late Bernard "Pete" Greene. He attended Canton Area Schools and graduated with the Class of 1971.
Following graduation, Douglas enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country for 17 years and earned the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He served the Navy as a refrigeration and air conditioner mechanic and prior to his honorable discharge acted as a recruiter canvasser in the Wellsboro area, Tioga County, PA. During his prestigious career with the Navy Doug received numerous decorations and citations including, the National Defense Service Medal; Meritorious Unit Commendation (2), Third Good Conduct Award for Period Ending 16Jun86; Navy "E" Ribbon, Navy Achievement Medal (2); 8th Gold Wreath Award; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Expert Pistol Shot Medal; Expert Rifle Medal
On December 5, 2008, Douglas married the former Martha Morales in Cajicá, Colombia. Together they shared seventeen years of loving marriage.
Doug was a gifted woodworker who created many beautiful pieces with his hands. He loved hunting and finding peace in the countryside, riding his motorcycle and watching wildlife, especially ducks of every breed. He was also a talented cook who enjoyed preparing meals for those he loved.
Douglas leaves behind his wife; Martha, at home, children; Christina Greene of Canton, Jeremiah (Angelica) Greene of Avondale, AZ, Angela (Shane) Vollgraf of Pheonix, AZ and Felipe Sinterra of Canton, grandchildren; Callie, Chloe and Keegan, mother; Martha Covey, siblings; Brian Greene, Stuart Greene, Vicki (Rodney) Mott, Cindy (Robert) Brown and Peter (Donna) Greene, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his father, Douglas was predeceased by a son; Jason Greene and a brother; Steven Greene.
In maintaining with Dug's wishes services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton is assisting the family with arrangements.
