Beverly Cunnien Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Honsa Family Funeral Home on Feb. 26, 2025.
Cunnien, Beverly A.
Age 92, of White Bear Lake, MN

Our beloved mom (aka Momma, Ma, G-Ma) passed away peacefully at Arbor Glen Senior Living with her son, Dave, by her side. Beverly was born on November 23, 1932 to Palmer and Emma Olson in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She was raised in the Como Park area of St. Paul along with her sisters Donna, Shirley, and Wendy. She attended McClellan Elementary and she graduated from Wilson High School in 1950.

After her high school graduation, she worked at First National Bank in St. Paul. A few years later, she met her future husband, Jerry. She was out with a girlfriend at Como Rec Bar and they were being hassled by a couple of guys. Jerry and his friend came along and rescued them. She ended up marrying Jerry on September 22, 1956 and they were married for 55 years before he passed away in 2011.

During their marriage they raised three boys (Chuck, Mike, and Dave) and one girl (Laurie) in White Bear Lake. She stayed home to raise the kids and take care of the home. When Laurie went to elementary school, she worked at Golfview Elementary in the cafeteria as the "lunch lady". She spent 13 years working there. During this time, she loved going to Bingo with her best friend, Bev O'Brien. When Bev called to go to bingo, she dropped everything and left the house in a flash. She also loved watching soap operas and had daily phone conversations with her sister Donna about all the latest drama on those shows.

Once Jerry retired, she enjoyed time babysitting the grandkids for a few years. They traveled "up north" and out west to Washington. They also traveled to Shanghai, Beijing, and Xian, China. With her daughter she traveled to Ireland, Budapest, Hungary, Croatia, and London and Paris. She also took road trips across the US with her daughter and sister, Wendy. With her son, Dave, her sister, Shirley and her brother-in-law, she traveled to Alaska. Whenever she had the opportunity to travel, she took it.

Bev remained in her home for 60 years before moving to Arbor Glen Senior Living. She spent the last three plus years there. Her best meal of the day was always an ice cream bar, which brought her a lot of joy. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. We hope she's in heaven doing a polka, playing bingo, and drinking a margarita!

Preceded in death by husband Gerald "Jerry" and sister Donna Wagner.

Survived by children Chuck (Lynn), Mike (Karen), David (Kathy), and Laurie; grandchildren Kristin (Justin), Katie (Paul), Lauren, Kyle (Jess) and Shannon (Andrew); 13 great-grandchildren; sisters Shirley Reinhardt and Wendy Olson.

The family will always appreciate the love and care our mom received from the staff at Arbor Glen Senior Living and Brighton Hospice.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Monday, March 3, 2025 at the CHURCH OF ST. PIUS X, 3878 Highland Ave., White Bear Lake, with a visitation one hour before Mass at Church. Interment, Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.

To Laurie and family~ your mom(Ma) was such an upbeat, happy lady that always had a smile to share! Fond childhood memories of our Golfview Elementary school lunch lady with her $(coin) dish! She was such a special person. Please know our thoughts are with you all at this time and don´t hesitate to reach
out if you need anything.
Take care & God bless,
Betsy, Mike, Abigail and Sutton

Laurie, though I didn´t know your mom or you for very long, I do recall Bev from Assisted Living when my mom was also in Assisted Living, before moving to Memory Care. Your mom was always friendly to my mom and kind. She was a beautiful person inside and out. At a very difficult time for my mom, your mom was kind and friendly. This may sound so simple and understated, but it was a huge gift. You were a wonderful daughter to your mom and it was a pleasure knowing your mom and making a new friend in you. So on behalf of Yvonne and myself, we thank your mom for her kindness.
Love, Barb Mlinar (Yvonne´s daughter)
