Beverly Ann Long

Beverly Ann Long, age 92 of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Saturday afternoon, December 2, 2023 peacefully at her residence.

 

Bev was born on June 22, 1931 in Indianapolis, Indiana, a daughter of Ralph and Virginia (Kleifgen) May.  She was a lifelong resident of Indianapolis.

 

She is survived by three daughters: Leslie Potts of Cape Coral, Florida, Laura (husband Mike) James of Cape Coral, Florida, and Linda (husband Hal) Gambrel of Moorestown, Indiana.

 

Ten grandchildren: Allyson, Kevin, Zach, Pete, Rachel, Matt, Sam, Josh, Tim, and Mara.

 

Seven great grandchildren: Masin, Logan, Jaylen, Grayson, Sofia, Jack, and Aiden.

 

Many nieces, nephews and other relatives survive.

 

She was preceded in death by her first husband: Ernest Sims, and her second husband Alfred Long.

 

She is also preceded in death by her parents mentioned above, one son: John “Mike” Sims, one grandson: Jordan Sims, and beloved son in law: Thomas E. Potts Jr.

 

A private family service will be held.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

 

A memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East Funeral Center, located at 10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46229.

 

The daughters of Beverly would like to extend a special thank you to Jeff and Nancy Bryant, Paul and Sara Hansen, Judy Eppich, Elaine Singer, and Rachel Grambrel for their special care given to Beverly in her later years.

 

Beverly grew up on the East side of Indianapolis.  After high school she earned her nursing degree from General Hospital.  Her first husband Ernest Sims passed away unexpectedly at the age of 37.  After his sudden death, Beverly selflessly devoted her entire life to raising her children and her nursing career.  She enjoyed working as the school nurse for University of Indianapolis for many years.  She also worked weekends and summers in pediatrics at Community Hospital East.

 

She met and married her second love Alfred Long in their 70s while mall walking at Washington Square Mall on the East side of Indianapolis.  Beverly and Alfred enjoyed many years together before his passing on February 25, 2021.  

 

Beverly enjoyed playing Euchre and Bingo, she was very active in her catholic community.  She loved nothing better than holding and loving on her great nieces and nephew in these last years of her life.

 

Beverly was energetic, optimistic, sassy and feisty.  She had a zest for life.  Christmas was always a very special season for her.  She loved decorating and the magic of Christmas for her and all of her family.

 

Everyone looked to Beverly for advice and her wisdom.  She was a motherly figure to so many.  

 

Beverly touched the lives of so many and her legacy will continue to live on!
