Beverly Myrl Flegal Parkman of Carrollton, GA, died September 3, 2025 at the age of 85 following a short illness.
Beverly was born March 16, 1940 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Robert Wesley and Myrl Beaver Flegal. Her grandparents were the late Mack Dorse Beaver and Rebecca Riley Beaver and the late Alfred Lever and Mattie Roberts Flegal.
She graduated from Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga and attended the University of Georgia where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. Her life would take a dramatic change when mutual friends arranged a blind date for her with David Stanley Parkman, III. The two fell in love and were married December 30, 1960 in Rossville, GA.
They welcomed the first love of their wedded lives one year later with the arrival of their daughter Julie Parkman Ivey. During those early years of marriage and parenthood, they lived the life of the military family due to David's commissioning in United States Marine Corps, stationed in Virginia and North Carolina, where Julie was born.
Following David's military service, they settled in Douglasville, Georgia where David went into the family newspaper business as Editor of the Douglas County Sentinel before they moved to David's hometown of Carrollton where he took a position with West Georgia College, now the University of West Georgia (UWG).
Shortly after arriving in Carrollton, they expanded their family with the birth of their son, Mark Robert Parkman.
In Carrollton, Beverly was an active member of the community involved in many civic and church-based organizations. She was a member of the Carrollton Jaycettes, the Katie Downs Fellowship, the Red Hat Pugs and Open Hands United Christian Ministry. At the University of West Georgia, she reconnected with her sorority, becoming a member and housing advisor to the Chi Omega Chapter at UWG. Professionally, Beverly worked for many years as the bookkeeper for Miles Pharmacy before becoming a paraprofessional at Carrollton Elementary School in the media center. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. As part of her service to the First United Methodist Church in Carrollton, she served as its wedding coordinator for 23 years, touching the lives of countless couples on their blissful day. She was also a member of the Tanner Health System Auxiliary for many years.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years David, her daughter Julie (Lance) Ivey of Carrollton, and her son Mark (Kelly) of Athens. She is also survived by her four grandsons, Blake Ivey (Savannah), Alex Parkman, Will Parkman, Charlie Parkman, a great grandson, Rhett Sadler, and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and cousins.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Connie Ransby and Arlether Dellarosa who provided exceptional care and comfort.
The family will receive friends in the Gathering Room of Carrollton First Methodist Church on Saturday, September 13 from 9am until 10:30am. Funeral service will follow the visitation in the sanctuary of Carrollton First Methodist Church with Rev. Travis Sneed, Rev. Ken Stephens officiating and eulogy by Mark Parkman.
Interment will be in Carroll Memory Gardens with Blake Ivey, Alex Parkman, Will Parkman, Charlie Parkman, Greg Garrett and Rhett Sadler.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Garrett, Charles Willis, Roger Kaiser, Lacey Robinson, Larry Cooley, Dr. Lee Stringfellow and members of the Tuesday Bridge Club and Red Hats.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Beverly's name to the David S. Parkman, III Mass Communication Scholarship at the University of West Georgia, UWG Foundations
