Bhaichandbhai Dullabhji Dholakia was born in December 1922 in Visavadar in the State of Gujarat in India. He passed at 2:15PM on Thursday, July 20th, 2023 in Scottsdale, Arizona.
After becoming a lawyer he immigrated to Kampala, Uganda where he worked as a lawyer briefly before going to London in 1948 and became a barrister at law.
Upon returning to Uganda in 1951 he married Pushpaben Mohanlal Vibhakar. His firstborn Jayshree was born in August 1952. He had 3 more daughters Diwya, Smita and Monal. His only son Ketan was born in November 1964. His excellent legal career in law in Kampala was rudely interrupted by the dictator Idi Amin in 1972 who ordered all Indians out of Uganda. He briefly worked in London before taking up a position in 1974 as a Magistrate in Blantyre, Malawi. Upon retiring in 1989 he immigrated to the United States to live with his daughter Diwya and son in Law Uday in Florida- and then lived in Arizona since 1995 with his youngest daughter, Monal and Son in Law Atul. BD Dholakia as he was affectionately known as and Pushpaben attended the weddings of their 5 grandchildren. They were blessed with 7 great grandchildren! On December 22, 2022 on his 100th Birthday all 35 immediate family members gathered in Scottsdale to celebrate this milestone. That was indeed his last hurrah. A few months ago they celebrated their 72nd Marriage Anniversary!
BD Dholakia is survived by his wife, Pushpaben, daughter Jayshree and Son in law Yogesh Vajaria, daughter Diwya and son in law Uday Ranjit, daughter Smita and son in law Dinshi Amin, daughter Monal and son in law Atul Patel, son Ketan and daughter in law Nilima Parekh, grandchildren and spouses Rohini Vajaria and Vikram Mathrani, Nikhil Vajaria and Leena Deshpande, Roshni Ranjit and Corey Reeves, Sonali Ranjit and Dulip Ratnasoma,Shalini Amin and Jordan Meerdink, Rohan Amin, Nirali and Niraj Patel,Maya Patel,Arjun and Lily Dholakia, great grand children Nayan, Kareena, Sophia, Sienna, Kaya, Luca and Veer.
Bhaichand was truly an institution, our patriarch and was loved by all who met him. He helped many of his relatives. He was adored by all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. We were all truly blessed to be so close to him. He will be dearly missed.
