It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Emeritus Dr. Bikash Nandy, who departed this life on July 3, 2025 at the age of 85. A scholar, dedicated educator, and beloved colleague, Professor Nandy leaves behind a legacy of academic excellence and personal integrity.
Born in 1940 in Barisal District of what is now Bangladesh, was a part of India at the time of his birth. He was a proud Indian who loved US just as much. Professor Nandy pursued a lifelong passion for Health Science, earning his Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University. He joined the faculty of Minnesota State University in1992, where he dedicated himself to teaching, mentoring, and inspiring countless students and colleagues. A scholar, dedicated educator, and beloved colleague, Professor Nandy leaves behind a legacy of academic excellence and personal integrity.
Beyond his academic achievements, Professor Nandy was a compassionate mentor and a cherished friend. He consistently supported his students, encouraging them to pursue their aspirations and reach their fullest potential.
Upon his retirement in 2011, in recognition of his outstanding achievements and significant contributions to the university, Professor Nandy was given the Emeritus status, a highest honor the university can bestow to retired faculty member.
He loved to read. He loved art and was a collector of paintings. He had stories behind every Jamini Roy’s art he collected. He also liked to travel. Conferences took him worldwide. After retiring he and his wife sailed the seas, travelled to India, South American and the Asian countries. But his heart was in Kolkata, India where he grew up.
Professor Nandy is survived by his wife Sipra Nandy, daughter Tatoon Nandy Graham, son Raj Nandy, son-in-law Michael Graham, and grandsons Ethan Nilva and Nicholas Ayan and numerous friends and family all over the world. We will miss him dearly. May God Rest his Soul in Peace.
