Bill Cardell (Frank-Willem Stuart Cardell), 77, of Little Elm, Texas, passed away on May 15, 2025. Born September 12, 1947 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, he was the son of a WW2 Canadian Paratrooper (Kenneth) and Dutch Underground Resistance Member (Carry). Although born in Calgary, he was raised in Holland for the first half of his childhood by his grandparents (Willem and Carolien van der Meulen) before rejoining his mom in Toronto. He often cited his grandfather, Willem, as his guiding light and role model as a parent, professional, coffee lover and all around human being.
For university, Bill worked on the trains during the summers and put himself through University of Western Ontario. He often reminisced on his times as an active member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, countless hours on the slopes and the friendships made during his time at UWO. He would go on to graduate as one of only two people at UWO that year to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. Although adept with technology, Bill's true talent was his personality and his ability to turn technology advantages into real work and business outcomes. He excelled in technology sales throughout his career as a top performer and leader. This led him to his true home of Texas in 1980 to open up the southern office for Phillips technologies. He would go on to work for some of the top technology companies in multiple different roles before he would retire from Cisco Systems after a 20+ year career.
Although his accomplishments in his career were commendable, in his eyes, there was no greater accomplishment than being a loving husband to Katy and an amazing dad to 4 wonderful boys.
Bill had a gift for immersing anyone he met into the passions and adventures of his life as he would relive and share, often highlighting how proud he was of the successes of his sons. Some of our favorite memories will always be the countless nights of throwing the baseball until the sun went down, driving cross country for hockey games, life lessons over single malt scotch, hockey games (yes, i said it twice) and family dinners where friends were always family.
Later in life he was able to share those same experiences and stories with those around him as he built new memories with his grandchildren. You could often find him on the sidelines of their soccer and tee ball games cheering them on with a baseball cap, sunglasses and coffee in hand.
He is preceded in death by his father (Kenneth), mom (Carry Cardell), the love of his life (Katy Cardell) and his granddaughter (Hailey Cardell).
He is survived by his Sons (and Daughters-in-law) Michael (Mary), William (Ally), Simon and James (MaryRose), his grandchildren Grace, Audrey and Kelton as well as many friends and extended family that will miss him dearly.
The Cardell Family will be hosting a celebration of life in Bill's memory on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 10:00 am. Rock Creek Church, 2860 W. First Street, Prosper, Texas 75078
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one of the following charities: Dallas Children's Hospital - he was often seen buying very large stuffed animals for his grandchildren anything he could do to bring children joy. https://give.childrens.com/ways-to-give/donate/gift-in-kind
We find comfort in knowing that Dad's legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
