James (“Jim”) Lovic Cardell, age 89, went to see Jesus on October 17, 2025, with his loved ones by his side. Mr. Cardell was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Lovic and Ed (Eddy Grindstaff) Cardell. He is proceeded in death by his parents, his sister Betty Cardell Cox Adler, son-in-law Sam Azar and grandson-in-law Corey Godfrey. Jim is survived by his wife Dyris, his granddaughter Baylee Brinkman, his daughters Rebecca (Jeff) Straub, Joy (Randy) Carlisle and Jamie Azar, stepsons Jeffrey (Brenda) Brinkman and Gregory Brinkman. Grandchildren include Christy Godfrey, Jonathan Carlisle, Joanna (Bryan) Gable, Benjamin (Amy) Straub, Joshua Straub, John (Leah) Azar, Jay (Lindsey) Azar, Ryan Brinkman, and Tyler (Crystal) Brinkman.
Jim grew up in Atlanta and eventually moved to Hendersonville, Tennessee. He married Dyris Knight Brinkman and was married for 41 years. Jim worked in IT services and retired from Nashville Electric Service. He was an adjunct professor at Volunteer State Community College. He loved to play golf and cards with anyone, especially those he could tease. He kept his sense of humor to the end.
Jim and Dyris are members of First Church of the Nazarene in Nashville, TN. They have been active in their small groups and loved to worship there. Jim was active in a men’s weekly Bible Study. He loved his Lord and Savior, and his family dearly. Jim also loved to listen to Baylee play his favorite hymns on the piano.
A celebration of life will be held on December 19, 2025, which would have been Jim’s 90th Birthday. The family will be in touch with the location and details as that time is near.
