Bill Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Skinner Funeral Home - Lansing on Feb. 3, 2026.
Bill R Johnson, 75, of Lansing, Michigan, passed away following a long struggle with liver disease on February 2, 2026 surrounded by his loved ones. Born on June 27, 1950 in Iron Mountain, Michigan he grew up in Lansing and graduated from Everett High School in 1968. Bill proudly served in the United State Army during the Vietnam War.

Bill married Cindy Smith (Johnson) on October 21, 1972 and together they built a life in various locations in the Lansing/Holt area where they raised their 2 children; Scott and Brooke. Bill worked as a wood modelmaker and tool and dye maker for General Motors for over 34 years from July 1968 to January 4, 2003 and spent countless hours working overtime to help provide for his family. Outside of work, Bill enjoyed bowling and is especially proud of his 3 perfect games of 300. He was also an avid Michigan State University sports fan and when he wasn't following televised sports he was enjoying his grandkids playing every sport imaginable. Most importantly, Bill, known as Bumpa by his grandchildren, loved and adored each and every one of them, Ethan, Zach, Tate, Kam, Preston and Harper. The joy that they brought him cannot be measured in words.

Bill is survived by his wife: Cindy Johnson (Smith), Children: Scott (Lori) Johnson, Brooke (Brian) Abbey, grandchildren: Ethan (Mi'Yania Woods) Johnson, Zach Johnson, Tate Johnson, Kam Abbey, Preston Abbey and Harper Abbey, siblings: Christine (Pete) Hanses, Carol (Jeff) Harry, JoAnne (Dan) Smith, Linda (Juan) Silvas, Doug (Amy) Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Vivian Johnson. Bill will be remembered most for his quiet but unwavering love of family.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
