Billy Joe Phelps, 75, passed away peacefully in his home on April 20, 2024. Billy was born on August 29, 1948, in Forsyth County to Robert Roland Phelps and Margaret Gough Phelps. Billy was a retired farmer. He loved farming, gardening, fishing, carpentry, raising pigs, making sausage, listening to bluegrass music, watching NASCAR, lending a helping hand to friends and family, spending time with his family, and “supervising.”
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Roland Phelps; his mother, Margaret Gough Phelps; his brother, Bobby Phelps; and his sister, Brenda Rivers. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Styers Phelps; his daughter, Allison Phelps King (Chris); his daughter, Robin Leigh Phelps; his grandkids, Rawley and Everleigh King; his sister, Sandy Snyder (David); his sister, Sue Waddell (Wally); and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at 2 pm at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home with visitation preceding the funeral at 1pm. The funeral service will be followed by a graveside service at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Well Care Hospice, 146 Dornach Way, Bermuda Run, NC 27003. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
