Billie Dwain Pettit, 91 of
Corpus Christi, Texas passed away at Spohn Hospital on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
Bill was born on October 28, 1933 in Macksburg, Iowa to Edd and Agnes Pettit. He was the second child of seven. He had three sisters and three brothers. Bill attended school there and graduated from Macksburg High School in May 1951. There were 12 students in his graduating class. They remained lifelong friends and held yearly class reunions in Macksburg. He worked on the farm and enjoyed mechanics.
In 1952 he enlisted in Des Moines, Iowa and was sent to San Diego, CA for bootcamp. From there he went to Norman, OK for training and then stationed in
Corpus Christi, Texas. He served as an Aircraft Engine Mechanic (air transfer) for the U. S. Navy until his honorable discharge in 1956.
Bill was joined in marriage to Joann McAllister on December 21, 1956 in Corpus Christi. They met through his best friend, Doug, and her best friend, Pat. To this union two daughters were born. Sheri and Lisa. They made Corpus Christi their home. Bill and Joann were married 60 years. Joann passed away on December 28, 2016.
Bill was employed at Reynolds Metals Company for his entire working career until he retired after 41 years.
He was a member of Second Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and an usher. He was an avid fan of the Houston Astros and enjoyed all sports. He enjoyed traveling in their RV for many years throughout the country. Every summer they would travel to Iowa for at least a month where he worked on Lucille and Dallas' farm and visited family and friends. Bill enjoyed fishing and water skiing with his father-in-law, Paul.
On May 25, 2019, Bill married Lynda Richter of
Corpus Christi, Texas. They enjoyed being with each other, traveling to new places and spending time with family and friends.
Bill leaves behind his wife Lynda. His two daughters Sheri Pettit (Lesa Angel) of Houston, Texas and Lisa Pettit (Fred Victor) of Prescott, Iowa. Sister Janice Fischer of Bethany, MO. Four grandchildren: Christopher Berry (Virginia Kim) of Seattle, WA, Aaron Berry (Megan) of Seattle, WA and Kimberly Berry of Nashville, TN, Anna Wheatley (Brandon) of Orange Grove, TX. Three great-grandchildren: Keegan, Kaylee and Kolby. Bill has many nieces and nephews who love him.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Edd Pettit and Agnes Rudolf (Clarence). Wife, Joann Pettit. Mother-in-law, Lucille McAllister and Father-in-law, Paul McAllister. Sisters, Lucille Meisenheimer (Dallas), Joann Lemon (James) Brothers, Dick Pettit (Betty), Donald Pettit (Lois) and Jerry Pettit (Dorothy). Brother-in-laws, Bill Wright and Bill Fischer.
Bill will be greatly missed. He was a good friend to many and loved the Lord.
A viewing at will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 26, 2025 followed by a Celebration of Life celebrated at 11:00 AM at Second Baptist Church, 6701 South Staples
