Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel - Scott CityBillie Jo (Short) Mirgaux-Smith, daughter of the late George Short and Josephine (Whitfield) Short was born on September 19, 1940 in Kelso, Missouri and departed her life on Wednesday, February, 18, 2026 at Chaffee Nursing Center Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing in Chaffee at the age of 85 years.
She was a homemaker, of the Christian faith, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
She was first united in marriage to Fred Mirgaux in Scott City. Mr. Mirgaux preceded her in death in 1986. She then united in marriage to John Smith. He also preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Joe Mirgaux, Henry (Rhonda) Mirgaux, and David Sandvos-Mirgaux; by five daughters, Margaret (Allen) Pender, Mary (Steve) Koehler, and Marie (Forrest) Cullum, Kathy Jo, and Georgie. Fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; two sister, Diane Biggs and Eva Faye Jobe; also, by a host of family and friends.
Along with her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Micheal William Mirgaux.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 23, 2026 from 9:00 until 10:00 AM in the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City. Graveside service will then take place at Lightner Memorial Park Cemetery on Monday, February 23, 2026 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Fred Burgard officiating. Interment will follow.
