Mrs Billie L. Wraggs-Vassel went home to be with the Lord, at the age of 87 on April 16, 2025. Billie was born on November 29,1937 to the parents of the late Jasper (Jack) Wraggs and Marylene Crosby Wraggs in Louisville, Mississippi.
Billie was the 18'h child out of 19 siblings, born to the union of Mr and Mrs Wraggs. Billie's mother passed away when she was 3 years old and her father passed away when she was 14 years old. She was then raised by her 3 eldest sisters, Fannie, Ethel and Katie. Her dad later remarried EIla Belle Lynch and had twin girls, surviving is Mary Wraggs.
She accepted Christ at an early age of 13 years old in Louisville, Mississippi. She later moved to Minter City, Mississippi with her sister Katie. While there, she met the love of her life and soon joined in marriage to the late Earl Vassel. To this union, five children were born. Mary, Patricia, Lewis, John and Melody. After the passing of her husband in 1965, Billie relocated to Toledo, Ohio in 1966 to be with her two eldest brothers, Sammie and Archie Wraggs.
Billie joined St. James, The Armory Church which is currently now called Win The World Ministries church under the leadership of Dr. William James where she was a Church Mother.
Billie was employed with Toledo Board of Education at Gunckel School as a Breakfast Aide for two years. She was employed with two jobs at the same time, she worked with Lucas County Children Services for ten years as the owner and provider of her in-home publicly funded child care in the late `70s until they closed down the River Rd location in the `80s and she was employed with the Granger Group Home for 18 years as a group mother until retiring in 1996.
Billie had a true love for God! She would read her Bible on a daily basis and fasted also. She enjoyed in her spare time talking and witness to others about the goodness of God and her Love for him, and what God has done for Her, and what God can do for You. She always had open arms and the go to person for whenever you needed to hear words of encouragement and/or advice for comfort whenever a person was
feeling down and out.
Billie was a kind person and never hated anyone! She always told her children and grandchildren that one of the ways to keep you from not getting into heaven is something little as Hating someone. You have to learn to Forgive! She said God loves all of us, no matter what we've done.
Billie was preceded in death by her father, mother, husband, sisters and brothers; bonus sons; Leroy Vassel, Oscar Vassel, Jatha Vassel; bonus daughters, Juanita Barnes and Emily Johnson.
Cherishing her memories are her loving sons; Lewis (Tracy) Vassel and John Vassel; daughters, Mary (Fletcher) Ballard, Patricia Thinker and Melody (Daniel) Cunningham; bonus daughter-in-love; Barbara Vassel, (19) grandchildren, (34) great-grandchildren and (3) great-great grandchildren, a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends. Special Godsons; George Holmes, Tim Strode; special God daughters; Twania Harbour, BerDonna Green, Laurel Holmes, Tanya Seldon, Ida Stacker. What God the Father considers to be pure and genuine religion is this: to take care of orphans and widows in their suffering and to keep oneself from being corrupted by the world.
May God our father bless her and welcome her home. For she looked after children with no mother or father.
Amen
