Billie Rae Ferguson-Wright, a beacon of love and strength, peacefully passed away on February 27, 2024, in Fort Worth, Texas, surrounded by her devoted family. Born on May 4, 1938, in her beloved hometown of Fort Worth, Billie was the cherished daughter of Joe Leonard Ferguson and Thelma Katherine Harris-Ferguson. Growing up in a warm and loving household, Billie attended Lake Worth schools, where she flourished academically and socially.
Billie's deep faith was evident from an early age, as she was baptized as a child and remained steadfast in her devotion throughout her life. Her faith served as the guiding light that shaped her compassionate and caring nature, leading her to touch the lives of countless individuals through acts of kindness and generosity.
In 1954, Billie's life took a beautiful turn when she met the love of her life, Elton "Elmo" Wright, on a blind date. Their connection was instant and enduring, culminating in a joyous union on March 12, 1955. Together, Billie and Elmo embarked on a remarkable journey filled with love, laughter, and unwavering commitment. Their marriage was blessed with three wonderful sons, Ricky, Jackie, and Larry, whom they raised with boundless love and dedication.
Family was the cornerstone of Billie's life, and she poured her heart and soul into nurturing and supporting her loved ones. As a mother, she was a source of strength, wisdom, and unconditional love, guiding her sons with gentle encouragement and unwavering support. Her home was always open to family and friends, radiating warmth and hospitality to all who crossed its threshold.
Billie's devotion extended beyond her immediate family to her cherished grandchildren, whom she adored with every fiber of her being. She reveled in the role of grandmother, affectionately known as "Nanny" showering her grandchildren with affection and spoiling them with love. They held a special place in her heart, and she delighted in sharing precious moments with them, whether it was shopping for the perfect dress or simply spending quality time together.
Professionally, Billie made significant contributions in various capacities, demonstrating a tireless work ethic and a genuine passion for helping others. She worked alongside her sister at General Dynamics for four years before transitioning to the caregiving industry, where she provided comfort and solace to patients at hospitals across the metroplex, including Harris Fort Worth Hospital. Her compassionate care and unwavering dedication left an indelible mark on all those she encountered, earning her the respect and admiration of colleagues and patients alike.
In her leisure time, Billie pursued her passions with zest and enthusiasm, embracing life's adventures with an infectious spirit of joy and curiosity. She was an avid square dancer, competing in competitions across the country and even traveling to Hawaii, where she had the privilege of meeting the legendary entertainer Don Ho. Her love for square dancing was surpassed only by her love for her bowling league, where she formed lasting friendships and cherished memories.
Billie's creativity knew no bounds, and she delighted in expressing herself through various artistic pursuits, including crocheting and hairstyling. She poured her heart and soul into every creation, infusing each piece with love and care. Her talent for hairstyling was legendary among her family, who eagerly awaited her skilled hands to work their magic.
Billie's legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories and a profound impact on the lives of those fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her.
Billie is survived by her devoted sons, Ricky Wright and wife Debora, Jackie Wright and wife Lisa, and Larry Wright and wife Sharon, along with her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Betty Rogers, and numerous extended relatives, including nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Katherine Ferguson, her five beloved brothers, her grandson Justin Wright, and her beloved husband, Elton "Elmo" Wright, with whom she shared a love that transcended time and space.
A visitation to celebrate Billie's life will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024, at the Azle Chapel on the Azleland Cemetery grounds from 5 PM to 8 PM. The funeral service will take place at God's Word of Life Church in Lakeside, Texas, on Monday, March 4, 2024, at 10 AM, followed by burial at Mount Olivet sorry Cemetery in Fort Worth, Texas.
Billie's memory will continue to be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew her, and her legacy of love will endure for generations to come.
