Chester Franklin Machen, Jr.
February 20, 1957 – October 1, 2025

Chester Franklin Machen, Jr., of Palo Pinto, Texas, passed away on October 1, 2025, at the age of 68.

Born on February 20, 1957, in Fort Worth, Chester was the son of Chester and Ruby Machen. He grew up running the backroads of Azle, Texas, where he developed a lifelong love for the outdoors, adventure, and just a little mischief.

Chester often said he was "a carpenter just like Jesus," and he carried that same spirit of humility, hard work, and faith throughout his life. He was happiest when he was hunting, fishing, or studying the Bible - and even happier when he could share those passions with others.

Known for his mischievous sense of humor and quick wit, Chester's favorite joke was:
"How do you catch a unique rabbit? You 'nique up on it.
How do you catch a tame one? Tame way."
And if you ever asked how he made it to 68, he'd grin and say, "I didn't make 68 by accident."

Chester is survived by his daughters: Misty Daily and her husband Eric; Amy Pollard and her husband Jeff; Chandra Matheson; and his "honorary" daughter Mary Fikes. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Joseph Simmons, Branden Simmons, Brittany Morris and her husband Nick Hittle, Gabe Morris, Hope Ricks and her husband Damien Ricks, Jacob Morris, Melody Machen, and Teagan Matheson; and one great-grandson, Rowan Ricks.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Ruby Machen; his sisters, Rosa Ann Cornell, Betty McMullen, and Marcelle Smith; his son, Joshua Machen; his granddaughter, Layla Matheson; and his "honorary" daughter, Lola Fikes.

Chester leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love of the outdoors, faith in God, and a family who will miss him dearly. He was as stubborn as a mule - but hung in there like a hair in a biscuit… until he didn't.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 17th at 2:00 PM
at Azleland Cemetery & Memorial Park
850 N. Cardinal Rd, Azle, Texas 76020
