Billy's Obituary Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Old Mission Mortuary & Old Mission Wichita Park Cemetery on Aug. 20, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Billy Gene Green was born on November 22, 1938 in Nacogdoches, TX, as the of four siblings to the late Jesse and Palsadie (Lilly) Green. Billy passed away peacefully at home in Wichita, KS on August 13, 2025 at the age of 86. He was the last living sibling of five children; Janie, Betty Sue, Harold, and Margaret.

Billy graduated from James Madison High School in Dallas, TX. He worked for the VA for 34 years where he moved his family from Dallas, TX, to New Orleans, LA, and finally to Wichita, KS before retiring in 1993.

Billy married Elmeree Hicks on March 19, 1961 in Dallas TX. From this union, they had 3 three children.

Billy enjoyed fishing, and traveling with his family around the country. Billy loved his family and made sure that his immediate family knew his extended family, so there weren't many family reunions that he missed.

Billy and Elmeree have attended Strangers Rest Missionary Baptist Church for over 3 decades. Here Billy was a devoted servant, serving as Vice President on the usher board and doing building maintenance for as long as his body allowed.

Billy is also preceded in death by his son David. Those who remain to cherish his memories are his wife, Elmeree; son, Donnie Henry; daughter, Chandra Walker; and son, Kevin Green. Grandchildren, Donnell Henry, Cassie Henry, Dominique Joiner (Anthony), Lorenzo Walker, Davontas Benson, and Charmetra Finch (Ace); and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, church family, and friends.

Although Billy was a man of few words, when he talked, you listened. He had a strong work ethic and he instilled the same in his children and grandchildren.
