Billy Bedsole Obituary
Billy was born the oldest of two children to Lucille and Charles Bedsole in Jasper, Alabama on February 19, 1940. He attended law school at the University of Alabama and was a practicing attorney since 1963. He was also business owner, a coach for over 45 years, an avid runner, and a long-time member of Spring Hill Baptist Church. Billy had an unstoppable passion for helping people in all areas of his life.
In high school, Billy's family moved to Mobile, Alabama. He met his wife, Mamie Delaney, in 1954. They married on November 11, 1961, and welcomed two children, Billy Charles (Rusty) in 1963 and Karen Lucille in 1966.
Billy wore many titles: husband, dad, brother, son, friend, attorney, deacon, chairman of endless committees, bar commissioner, Bible Study Fellowship Leader, fish keeper, and, perhaps his most well-known title: coach. He coached over 500 basketball and football games and won numerous championships. The City of Mobile honored him by naming the street leading to the athletic fields at Municipal Park Billy Bedsole Run. His greatest joy was mentoring those young men.
Billy practiced law until a few days before he passed. The word "retired" was not in his vocabulary. He worked diligently both in and out of the courtroom to seek justice for his clients. Likewise, he was dedicated to Springhill Baptist Church serving the Lord, teaching the Bible, and ministering to others.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lucille Anderson Bedsole, his father, Charles Bedsole, and many beloved pets, but mostly fish.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Mamie Delaney Bedsole, his children Rusty Bedsole and Karen Bedsole Golightly, his sister Patricia Abney, his grandchildren: Bella, Charlotte, Phin, Brink, and Pip, many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Spring Hill Baptist Church Foundation or the Boys & Girls Club of South Alabama.
A memorial service and celebration of life for Billy will be held at Springhill Baptist Church on Friday, November 17, visitation at 10 am, service at 11 am. Reception to follow

I'm just seeing this obituary but I felt compelled to comment. At his father's urging my son played football on Coach Billy's team at Municipal Park. Steven felt Billy would be a positive influence for my son since Mr. Bedsole was so highly regarded in the Mobile community and was so well known to be active both in his church and in the local sports community. Steven thought the experience would be invaluable for Joe. Saddened for the loss to the Mobile sports community.

My sincere condolences. Billy defended me against another law firm on ethical grounds, resulting in their disqualification to represent my opponents. This was a crucial case for all of my family and allowed us to gain a fair settlement. He showed knowledge and dedication beyond just doing a job, as others have said about him in all areas of his life. I have great admiration for him, and know he will be missed.

Coach Bedsole was a father I never had. He came into my life as a 9 year old coming back Municipal Park to play football in 1980. The Lord knew I needed someone and put Coach Bedsole in my life. I hope I made you proud more than I disappointed you Coach.
To Mrs. Bedsole, Rusty and Karen thank you all so much for sharing your husband and father me. If not for him I´m not sure how my life may have turned out.

I met Billy at a
Friday bible study. We became instant friends. we shared a lot of Christian things in common. We prayed a lot together. Billy was a prince of a Christian gentleman. I loved him very much. Prayers for Mamie and children. Billy is in no more pain. Went and prayed with him day before he entered hospital and he said all he wanted was for people to see Jesus in him. I meet Billy for the first time at a BSF Meeting this year. I only talked to him on three occasions. During that time I learned how much he loved his Lord, his wife and family. He was really proud of his grandchildren. He was a blessing, may he enjoy his current state. Well done my good and faithful servant. Mathew 25:21.

Billy Bedsole was a Man! He was a brilliant tough litigator professionally and was incredibly compassionate. He loved helping others reach potential they didn´t see in themselves-especially kids who he coached / mentored from small boys into young men. He was one of those guys when he walked into the room, you braced yourself like a man. He was super cool and kind. His high standard of care for the works the Lord had him to do and his high standard of care for others will not be forgotten. Thank you Billy for being so unique and selfless.
