HANOVER CHAPEL Mr. Billy Joe Bruce, age 84, of Lexington, Indiana entered this life on July 22, 1937 in Jefferson County, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late James Andrew and Anna Murl Newton Bruce. He was raised and lived all of his life near New Bethel in Jefferson County. He graduated in 1955 from Saluda High School and attended Hanover College. Bill was first united in marriage to Virginia Paul and this union was blessed with four sons, William Randall, Gerald Lee, Jeffery A. and Brian Scott. He worked for a short time with the Charlestown Ammunition Plant and then with Chain Belt in Madison. At 15 years of age, Billy began driving the truck to haul milk and ran the route until retiring in 2014. On February 14, 1986, he was united in marriage to Penny R. Colbert at the Brown Chapel at Hanover College. He was a member of the Hanover Baptist Church and had enjoyed being president of the Nabb Road Boys early in life. He loved his farm where he raised corn, soybeans and tobacco. He liked to play poker, raise a garden, tend to his flowers, keep his place immaculate with his burn piles and support Southwestern schools for his grandkids. He also dearly loved his dogs and cats. Billy died on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at 8:00 a.m. at his home near Lexington, Indiana. Colbert Bruce of Lexington, Indiana; his loving sons, William Randall Bruce and his wife, Wendy of Madison, Indiana, Gerald Lee Bruce of Lexington, Indiana, Jeffery A. Bruce and his wife, Dawn of Lexington, Indiana, Brian Scott Bruce and his spouse, Jim of Lexington, Kentucky; his loving step daughter, Kelly Charmoli and her husband, Greg of Louisville, Kentucky; his loving grandchildren, Kelsey, Olivia, Jack, Ava, George, and Molly; his adoring great grandson, Ryder; his brother, Mike Bruce and his wife, Lisa; his sister in law, Jeanie McCabe of Louisville, Kentucky; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, James Andrew Bruce, died August 25, 1991, his mother, Anna Murl Newton Bruce, died January 20, 1997, and his step son, Kevin Jackson, died September 1, 1989. FUNERAL CEREMONY Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., by Pastor J.D. Traylor at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre - Hanover Chapel, 278 East Main Street in Hanover, Indiana. Interment will follow in the New Bethel Cemetery near Chelsea, Indiana.
