Marilyn Netzel Obituary

Marilyn A. Netzel
Born: March 12, 1933
Died: January 16, 2026 in Jacksonville, FL
Marilyn Agnes Netzel passed into new life on Friday, January 16, 2026, at her home in Jacksonville, Florida at the age of 92.
She was born Marilyn Agnes Mylor on March 12, 1933, in Madison, Indiana, and considered Carrollton, Kentucky, her hometown. She was the daughter of Hugh Thomas and Helen Cecelia Gardner Mylor. Marilyn lost her eyesight at the age of 12 following an illness.
Marilyn graduated from Nazareth Academy High School near Bardstown, Kentucky in 1951 and earned her associate degree from Nazareth College in 1953. After graduation, she and her friends moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where she worked as a secretary for attorney P. V. Watson, Jr. at Girdler Manufacturing Company.
In1957, Marilyn met Don Netzel at a party, and they were married in Louisville in 1958. The couple moved to Kankakee, Illinois, Don's hometown, where Marilyn loved and excelled at being a wife to Don and mother to their three children, Natalie, Denise, and Quin. Marilyn and Don experienced profound heartbreak when their four-month-old daughter, Cheryl, died in Marilyn's arms in 1962.
Always active, Marilyn's interests and hobbies included playing bridge, Bible study, book club, cooking and baking, crafting, and P.E.O. She served as Room Mother more times than could be counted. Marilyn shared her writing and poetry talents only with her family. She had an incredible memory and remembered details of her friends' lives, both old and new. Despite being legally blind for the entirety of her adult life, Marilyn never allowed this to prevent her from caring for her family, joining social groups and clubs or developing the deep and long-lasting friendships that enriched her life. She was always deeply grateful for the treasured friends who went out of their way to drive her to outings, events and meetings so she could be included. She lived her large faith in simple ways with devotion to prayer, a generous spirit, easy smiles and everyday kindness to all.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Don, and her infant daughter, Cheryl; her parents, Tom and Helen Mylor; her sisters, Ann Mylor Kennedy and Mary Lou Mylor Rider; her brother, George Mylor. She is survived by her brother, Thomas "Buddy" Mylor (Carla).
As she frequently said, Marilyn's greatest joy and her legacy are her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters, Natalie Stacker (Peter) and Denise Schaenzer (Tom), and her son, Quin Netzel (Dodi). Her grandchildren are Brenann Stacker; Eryn Stacker Stephens (Derek); Meg Stacker King (Corey); Cole Schaenzer (Olivia); Brad Schaenzer; Max Netzel (Emily); and Olivia Netzel. Her great-grandchildren are Tau King, Rue King, Shay Stephens and Weston Netzel.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 11am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9800 Baymeadows Road, Jacksonville, Florida. Burial will be private at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Office of Mission Advancement, P.O. Box 9, Nazareth, Kentucky 40048. Please visit her online Tribute at www.quinn-shalz.com. Arrangements by Quinn Shalz Funeral Home, Jacksonville Beach, FL.

I am so sorry for your loss. Your mom was great friends with my mom (Jan Moreland) years ago. I have memories of them going to garage sales together - your mom was always so nice. When I was young, she would let me come over to swim in your pool. The "moms" would sit outside and chat while I swam. That was a BIG deal! She would bring out chocolate cupcakes from the freezer for me. Great memories! Thinking of you all. With Deepest Sympathy, Diane Moreland Kern
