Ferrell Long Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by St. John's Family Funeral Home & Crematory on Feb. 14, 2026.
Ferrell DeWitt Long, aged 90 of Jacksonville, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on February 12, 2026. She was born on November 14, 1935 in Jacksonville. She was the only child of Bernard and Mildred DeWitt, growing up in such places as Live Oak and Jacksonville Beach. In 1954 she graduated from Robert E. Lee High School where she met the love of her life, Max. They both attended Florida State University and were proud Seminoles. She was awarded the title of "Kappa Alpha Rose". Max and Ferrell were married in 1956 until his death in 2012.

Ferrell was a member of First Baptist Church for 50 years, and faithfully served in the Chancel Choir for over 40 years. Her strong faith, optimism, joy and love for Jesus shone through to all who knew her. She was a dedicated member of the ladies Sunday school classes and a strong prayer warrior.

Ferrell loved her family fiercely and if asked, she was always happy to brag a little or share a photo or update. Throughout her life, she had a deep love of country and patriotism. Her hobbies included reading, games and watching Hallmark movies. She loved the beach and especially being with friends, which was always a great source of joy. More than anything she loved her sweetheart Max, and missed him every day until she could join him again. Surely, they're doing the jitterbug together.

Ferrell leaves quite a legacy. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She is survived by 3 children: 2 sons, Brad (Cathy) Long of Ponte Vedra, FL, Kevin Long of Wilmington, NC, and daughter, Beth (Mike) Long Rausch of Crescent City, FL; 8 grandchildren, Megan (Barry) Sproles of Tallahassee, FL, Molly (Jeremiah) White of Jacksonville, FL, Brooke Long of Whittier,

NC, Bradley (Lexi) Long of Ponte Vedra, FL, Morgan (Jeff) Berger of Macclenny, FL, Madison (Zach) Norman of Callahan, FL, Emma Long of Austin, TX, and Abby Long of Jacksonville Beach, FL.; 12 great-grandchildren: Norah, Max, Jude, Teagan, Everly, Colton, Reese, Forrest, Kylie, Brett, Sophia and Tripp. Ferrell is also survived by wonderful brothers and sisters-in-law, extended family and friends.

Memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Heaven is definitely sweeter and the heavenly choir just gained a special lady.
