Billy H. Carr, 88, of Chapel entered into his heavenly home on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at Braxton Healthcare Center, Sutton, surrounded by his family.

He was born June 3, 1937, on Grass Lick in Chapel to the late James Noah Carr and Rachel Brady Carr.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marguerite Short; and brother, Bobby Carr.

Billy did several jobs in his lifetime. He worked as a bus driver for Braxton County Schools for several years. He and his wife were merchants and co-owners of Gerwig Store on Chapel Road. He enjoyed farming and spending time with his family. He pastored churches of the United Methodist Charge in Braxton County for about 18 years. Serving his community for 40 plus years in the Chapel Volunteer Department was near and dear to his heart. When Braxton County Emergency Services began, he also volunteered and helped them. Billy was the Scout Master and secured the Silver Beaver Award in the Chapel Boy Scouts. He was past President of the Braxton County Fairs & Festivals Association.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 65 years, Thelma Susan Gerwig Carr; son, David Carr and wife, Bonnie, of Chapel; Ivan Carr and wife, Melanie, of Gassaway; daughter, Sandy Brady and husband, Pat, of Chapel; grandchildren, Ashley, Heather and Mollie, Tyler and Allison; great grandchildren, Braeden, Brodie, Tanner, Raleigh, and Brooklyn; and several nieces and nephews.

Billy's funeral will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway, WV with Reverend Ron Acord officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Chapel.

Visitation will be the evening before from 6 to 8 P.M. on Friday, August 15th at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Fairview Cemetery Fund, c/o Sharon Craft, 48 Nicholas Run Road, Gassaway, WV 26624.
