Billy Ray Clark was born on August 1st, 1942, near Ruth, Mississippi, to Vera Mae (Dunaway) and Oakley Clark. He was the eldest of seven children. At just 14, Billy set out on his own, determined to carve his own path. At 19, he met the love of his life, Pat Shay, from Feather Falls, California, and together they built a beautiful life, raising three children—Rhonda, Cathie, and Daniel. Their journey took them across the country, from California to Alaska, with homes in Oregon, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Washington, and Missouri, creating countless cherished memories along the way.

Billy proudly served his country, dedicating seven years to the U.S. Air Force as an enlisted serviceman. He continued his commitment to public service as a firefighter for the Air Force, working in civil service for many years before retiring in 1992. His dedication to both his family and his community left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Known for his strength and resourcefulness, Billy had an incredible talent for building or fixing anything. He was also a constant source of love and support for his family and friends, always ready to lend a helping hand. Billy enjoyed fishing, hiking with his family, RV traveling, and visiting with friends and family. In his later years, Billy enjoyed relaxing at home with his wife and 2 cats, Callie and Punkinhead, while watching his favorite TV shows, Molly B's Polka Party, Ancient Aliens, and Oak Island.

On October 21st, 2024, Billy passed away peacefully from heart and kidney failure caused by diabetes. He is predeceased by his mother, Vera Mae Boyd; his father, Oakley Clark; his stepfather, Robert Boyd; his sisters, Katy Sue Newton and Lola Mae Boyd; and his brothers, Oakley Clark Jr. and Rouggie Boyd.

Billy leaves behind his beloved wife of 62 years, Pat; his children, Rhonda Tryon (Paul), Cathie Pavkovic (Stevo), Daniel “Rex” Clark, and Taryn Nichols (Craig); as well as his two younger sisters, Luna Steele and Louise Tullis. He is also survived by his four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his legacy of love, strength, and faith.Though Billy will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort knowing he is now at home in heaven, watching over them with a heart full of love and peace.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. at the Salisbury National Cemetery with military honors in Salisbury, NC.
