Billy Joe Dendy, 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 16, 2026, surrounded by his family he loved so dearly.
Born in Stewart, Mississippi, Billy Joe proudly served in the United States Army Reserve and spent his working years as a crane operator with Local 406, taking pride in the lowering of the nuclear reactor at the Entergy plant in St. Francisville, Louisiana. Billy Joe was happiest when he had a rod and reel in hand, sitting on the water, sharing his love of fishing with his children and grandchildren. Those fishing trips together will always be some of the family’s most treasured memories.
Billy Joe loved nothing more than a house full of family and friends to cook for. He was known for cooking some of the best BBQ chicken, fried fish, and boiled crawfish. He enjoyed gardening and loved to share his tomatoes and cucumbers with everyone. He was married for 56 years to the love of his life, Suzie, and remained devoted to her always.
He is survived by his sister, Rachel “Ann” Chandler; his children, Bruce Dendy (Rhonda), Robynne Broussard (Craig), and Christy Wallace (Johnathon); eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne Watson Dendy; his parents, Houston and Era Luetta “Criss” Dendy; his brother-in-law, Keith Chandler and his sister-in-law, Patsy Watson who he helped take care of for over forty years.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 1:00pm -3:00pm at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge. A Graveside service will start at 3:00pm at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, in the Garden of King Solomon. In lieu of funeral services, a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to The Lodge Nursing Home and The Hospice of Baton Rouge, and to all the kind and compassionate caregivers who helped Billy Joe along the way.
In lieu of plants/flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to The Hospice of Baton Rouge, 3600 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70806, in loving memory of Billy Joe Dendy.
