Billy Ray Dobbs, 79, of Columbus, passed away on July 2, 2024.
Billy was born May 5, 1945, in Vancouver, Washington, the son of Lee Thomas and Alice Mae Maynard Dobbs.
After graduating high school, Billy worked as a merchant mariner for 3 years until he met Ruth A. Sexton. He and Ruth were wed on September 13, 1966, and spent the next 52 years together until her passing on September 5, 2019. After marrying Ruth, Billy switched occupations from a merchant mariner to a truck driver, spending 58 years in the driver's seat.
Billy is survived by his daughters Penelope (Jeffrey) Galarno of Columbus and Jeanette (Michael) Buzzard of Grammer; as well as his siblings Randy (Eileen) Dobbs of Concord, North Carolina, Roger (Genie) Shannon and Carolyn (Johnnie) Saia both of The Villages, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ruth, and granddaughter Eva Patience Buzzard.
In keeping with Billy's wishes, cremation is planned. A graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024, at Garland Brook Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest next to his wife Ruth.
Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Fund (www.kidneyfund.org) through the funeral home.
Services were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
