Billy passed away peacefully at his home on January 28, 2026. He was born April 11, 1943, in Ada to Eugene M. and Katherine Irene McCurdy Hagar. He lived a life rooted in kindness, quiet strength, and deep devotion to his family. While he wore many titles throughout his life, his favorite by far was being a Papaw.
Nothing brought him greater joy than the time he spent with his grandchildren. Whether he was telling stories, offering gentle wisdom, cheering from the sidelines, or simply sitting close by, his love for them was constant and unmistakable. He took pride in each of them, celebrating their successes, comforting them in hard moments, and reminding them-always-how deeply they were loved.
He believed family was life's greatest gift, and he showed that belief through his actions every day. His patience, humor and steady presence created memories that will be treasured forever. The lessons he passed on were; love first, show up, and care deeply.
He spent over 64 years married to Judy, the love of his life (He actually told her that!). They started dating when they were sophomores in high school and have been together ever since. They both graduated from Ada High School in 1961. In their early married years, they loved to go to the movies, and hang out with good friends. Together they raised three children. Two sons, Mark Hagar and wife, Melody, and Brett Hagar and wife, Cynthia; one daughter, Jill Danielson and husband, Jeremy. He was also survived by eight grandchildren, Brett Alan Hagar, Rhyley and Turner Brewer, Ryan and Nina Hagar, Tate Danielson and Reid Danielson, Ryder Hagar, Riddik Hagar, and Remi Hagar; and two great-grandchildren, Fallon Brewer and Nash Brewer. He was survived by many friends and relatives.
Billy had many occupations. He was a teacher, coach, and principal in Darrouzett, Texas. He owned Hagar's Texaco in Ada for many years. He finished his career by working at Glenwood School. He absolutely loved being around the little kids. There were so many times he would be somewhere and would hear, "There's Mr. Hagar!" and they would come running to hug him.
Billy loved all sports. He was a big fan of the Sooners and the Dallas Cowboys. He bowled in leagues for many years, loved his Thursday scramble days at Lakewood Golf course, and he played lots of baseball and softball. He helped coach his kids and grandkids teams.
He was a Mr. Fix It and a HUGE baby hog. He also loved to eat. Judy's pecan pie, Cynthia's strawberry cake, Melody's homemade banana ice cream, fried pies, popsicles, and Mark's grilled pork chops were some of his favorites. (There wasn't anything that Jill cooked that he particularly liked. lol) He also loved to be outside whether it was mowing, fishing, gardening, or swinging in his swing.
