James Lofton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Phillips Funeral Service on Feb. 5, 2026.
James Orin Lofton was born on October 4, 1941 in Sweetwater, TX to Edward Burleson Lofton and Ruby Vay Lofton . He passed from this life on February 3rd, 2026.
On March 26th, 1971, James married Frances Jane Venis. They raised three children and were married for 50 years before she proceeded him in death.
If you asked James about his profession, he would have said carpenter, and it would be an honest answer. But he was much more than that. Besides being a cowboy, James was a rancher and a farmer most of his life. He was a creator and supported himself and his family through multiple business ventures: Home construction, cabinet building, crop dusting, backhoe services, pool building, welding, and upholstery. In every business he insisted on doing a good job, and it showed in the quality of his work.
James loved horses, rodeos, and restoring classic cars. A water-color of a car he restored was hung in the state capital.
James is preceded in death by his father, Edward Burleson Lofton, his mother Ruby Vay Jarman Lofton, his wife Frances Jane Lofton, brother Carol Lofton, and sister Viva Jean Ashley.
He is survived by his daughter Arlene Lee (Carson) of Tennessee, son Darren Goss of New Hampshire, son Gary Bratcher (Penny) of Minnesota, sisters Kay Lewis and Susan Green, brother Jerry Lofton, six grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren
Pallbearers will be Garrett Payne, Corbyn Payne, Brandon Bowers, Jody Green and Cade Hopkins and Patrick Conway.
Viewing will be 1:00 pm to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10 and Wednesday, February 11, 9:00 am to 7:00 pm.
Services will be 10AM Thursday February 12, 2026 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Ada with Pastor Dane Robinson officiating and interment to follow at Holdenville Cemetery.
