Billy Hanks Obituary

(Billy Hanks) Billy Joe Hanks, 90, husband of the late Margaret Floyd Hanks, of Anderson, S.C., passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at his home.

Born in Anderson, on April 6, 1935, he was a son of the late Crayton Hanks, and the late Allie Mitchell Hanks.

For over 46 years, Billy was the Anderson area supervisor for Palmetto Baking/Sunbeam Bread Company. He was a member of Varennes Heights Baptist Church, where he formerly served as deacon. He was an avid reader of the Bible, having read through it several times.

In retirement, he enjoyed watching Atlanta Braves, the Clemson Tigers, and Western shows on T.V.

He is survived by his children, Lynn Hanks, Greg Hanks (Rhonda), Debbie Ellenburg (Ronnie), and Chris Hanks (Angie), his grandchildren, Scott Hanks, Andrea Hicks (Michael), Steven Shaw, Amanda Shaw, Nicole Hanks, and Ryan Hanks, as well as thirteen great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sister, Bobbie Wicker.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Jimmy Hanks.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm, on Monday, August 4, 2025, in The Tribute Room of The Standard Cremation & Funeral Center, 1621 Pearman Dairy Rd., Anderson, S.C. 29625. Rev. Dr. Doug Ferguson will officiate. A private family burial will be held, beside his wife, at Historic Silver Brook Cemetery in Anderson.

The family will receive friends, at The Standard, prior to the service, from 2:00pm – 3:00pm.

Flowers are optional. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of The Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, S.C. 29621.
