Billy "Bill" G. Hewitt passed away peacefully at home after an extended illness on December 14, 2025. He left this life to enter eternal life surrounded by his family and friends.
Bill was born the second oldest of five children to the late Jesse James Hewitt and Carrie Pauline Price Hewitt.
He was a graduate of Newport News High School in Newport News, Virginia. At the age of 18, he met and married the love of his life and spouse of 64 years, Patricia Muse Hewitt. In 1962, they welcomed their first child, Susan. The young family then moved to Richmond, Virginia, where Bill acquired his apprenticeship for Master Machinist Tool and Dye Maker. They welcomed their second child, Jeffrey in 1970.
The family eventually relocated to Tullahoma, Tennessee, where Bill was employed by Arnold Air Force Base with the Arnold Engineering Development Complex. There he worked with Aerodynamics, propulsion wind tunnels, rocket and turbine engine testing and specialized units. During this time, he decided he wanted to own his personal business and founded Hewitt Tool and Dye, Inc., whose customer base was exclusive to fulfilling defense government contracts. Here one highlight was, manufacturing components for Aircraft Arresting Systems for the U.S. Navy. These systems rapidly decelerate aircraft, as they land on Naval Ships which is an essential component of Air Force Aviation. He also made components for Sonar Windows in addition to designing and manufacturing multiple tools, dyes and other components for Redstone Arsenal, Lockheed Martin and others.
After several years and selling the business, he and Patricia relocated to Merritt Island, Florida where Bill was employed by NASA Kennedy Space Center. Finally, after retiring from a successful and rewarding career, Bill and Patricia made Travelers Rest, South Carolina their forever home where they made great connections and friends.
Bill was a quiet man with a gentle soul, devoted to his family and friends. He loved playing pranks, jokes, deer hunting, fishing, camping and spur of the moment scenic road trips with cherished Patricia. He took great pride in his career and family. He will forever be admired, loved and missed.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his son, Sgt. Jeffrey Todd Hewitt, (EOW 04.04.04); two brothers, Jesse Perry Hewitt and Gary Hewitt; and one sister, Charlotte Honke.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Patricia; daughter, Susan Hewitt; brother, Raymond Price; two grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Future Services to be announced.
