Billy R. Hicks, Jr., 55, of Equality, Alabama, passed away peacefully at home in Equaltity, Alabama on September 19, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on February 6, 1970.
Billy grew up in Hueytown, Alabama, and graduated from Hueytown High School in 1988. Shortly after, he began his career in the United States Army, where he faithfully served his country for 21 years. His dedication, discipline, and sacrifice left a lasting impact on all who served alongside him.
Following his military service, Billy continued to serve his community with the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office during two separate periods, first from 2011 to 2016 and later from 2019 to 2025. Throughout his career, he held several roles, including Deputy and SWAT Operator. He was known for his dedication, professionalism, and willingness to guide others. During his final tour with the Sheriff’s Office, he served as a Courthouse Security Deputy, where he mentored and trained many of the new deputies, leaving a lasting impact on the next generation of law enforcement officers.
One colleague shared:
“Deputy Hicks was more than just a coworker-he was a friend, a mentor, and a true example of what it means to serve with honor. His dedication to this community and to the men and women he worked beside will never be forgotten. We are grateful for his years of service, both to our country and to Chilton County. On behalf of the Sheriff’s Office, I extend my deepest condolences to his family. Deputy Hicks, your legacy will continue to inspire us. Rest easy, brother-we have the watch from here.”
Another remembered him as “truly an amazing man. A man of honor and full of God’s love for others! We will miss him so very much.”
Billy was a devoted husband to his wife, Jammie Dale Goodman Hicks, with whom he shared 21 years of marriage. Together they built a life of service, faith, love, and wonderful memories.
He is survived by his mother in law, Jean Goodman; his children, Katelyn Hicks, Jaron (Madison) Hicks, Blair (Jason) Phillips, Tiffany (Ken) Rawlinson, and Robbie (Steven) Watkins; his brothers, Patrick (Monica) Hicks and Brett (Misty) Hicks; his brother in laws, Greg (Latisha) Goodman, John (Melanie) Goodman, and Jeri (Michelle) Goodman; his god-daughter, Madelyn Grace Lyons; and many loving aunts, uncles, neices, nephews and cousins.
Billy was the proud grandfather of Gracie Hicks, Addison Kate Hicks, Lynlee Hicks, Bryson Phillips, Koda Phillips, Jacob Carroll, Ellison Rawlinson, AnnaLeigh Rawlinson, Emily Watkins, Oliver Watkins, Austin Watkins, and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his newest grandchild, Riley Miller Hicks.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy R. Hicks, Sr. and Sharon Malone Hicks, as well as his grandparents, Rev. George “Bill” W. Hicks and Dorothy Littlefield Hicks of Centreville, AL, and Albert Joseph Malone and Alice Marie Medlock Malone of Gulfport, MS.
Friends will be received Tuesday, September 30, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Verbena Baptist Church.
Services will be held Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 11:00 am. at Verbena Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Wyatt officiating.
Interment will follow in Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo, Alabama.
