Mr. Billy Ray Houston, 61, of 440 Hillcrest Dr. went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born in Iredell County on December 4, 1944, he was a son of the late Don Wesley Houston and Mrs. Ruth Marlowe Houston who survives and is of Statesville. He was a painter with Sigmon Painting Contractors and was a member of Christ Church of Statesville. While his health permitted, he was also a member of V.F.W. Post # 2031 of Statesville.

In addition to his father, Mr. Houston was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Delores Bustle and two grandchildren, Tiffany Denise Martin and Brady Grubbs. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Caroline L. Houston of the home, one son, Harold Bustle, Jr. of California, 5 daughters, Ellen Allison of Claremont, Gina Shumaker and her husband, Kenny of Stony Point, Tammy Moehenpah of Statesville, Cassaundra Hefner and here husband, Calvin of Hickory and Corella Houston of Statesville. Also surviving are six brothers, Don W. (Buddy) Houston, Jr., and his wife, Polly of Newton, Richard Houston and his wife, Kay of Statesville, Jerry Houston and his wife, Geraldine of Statesville, Ronnie Houston and his wife, Beverly of Statesville, Tommy Houston of Elkin, Ricky Lynn Houston and his wife, Karen of Elkin, four sisters, Mrs. Wanda Mull and her husband, Joe of Gastonia, Sherry Richardson and her husband, Ronnie of Trap Hill, N.C., Linda Scott and her husband Gary of Elkin and Peggy Gentry of Elkin. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Services celebrating Billy’s life will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Christ Church with Pastor Eric Morphis officiating. The body will lie in state at the church for thirty minutes prior to the service and burial will follow in Iredell Memorial Gardens. Full Military Rites will be presented by V.F.W. Post # 2031, Harold Littlefield Chapter # 68 of the D.A.V. and American Legion Posts # 217 and # 65 all of Statesville.

The family will assemble at the residence of the deceased and will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent on-line to the family to www.legacy.com. Memorials may be given to Christ Church P.O. Box 5248 Statesville, N.C. 28687. Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.

I only knew Billy from his coming into the hospital but he always had a cheerful smile that made you feel like he was an old friend. My prayers are with this family. I am sure that Billy is with his Lord.
