Billy went home to his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. He was born on December 16, 1936, in Kilbourne, Louisiana. Billy was an Army veteran serving from April 1959 until March 1965. He retired from South Central Bell (AT&T) after years of dedicated employment. He spent another ten years as a contractor before ultimately retiring because that job got in the way of his true passion; playing softball. It was after retirement, Billy embraced his new name and calling as “Pawpaw Billy” and made himself available to “everywhere for everyone”, especially for the ones he loved.

He is remembered as being a true sports fan at heart and an avid softball player and played

well into his 70s. He also had a great love for music and a greater devotion to his Lord. Billy spent many years as a choir member and was a long-time member of Florida Boulevard Baptist Church and Greenwell Springs Baptist Church. His favorite hymn was ‘Amazing Grace”, which he sang until the very end. He now sings that beautiful hymn at the gates of Heaven where we know he was greeted by all his family. In John 11:25-26 the Bible says, "I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.”

He is survived by wife, LaNelle Huffty; sons, Warren Huffty (Lisa), Duane Huffty (Trudy), Alan Hutson (Michelle) and Chris Hutson (Danielle); daughter, Melanie Brekeen (Keith); grandchildren, Mikel Miller, Robyn Delaune, Rachel Hopper, Ryan Huffty, Justin Huffty, Dori Huffty, Jacob Huffty, Sarah Huffty, Analise Huffty, Claire Bergeron, Aaron Bergeron, Brianna Hutson and Dylan Kesner. He also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine Hutson Huffty; his parents, Eugene and Evelyn Huffty; and his sister, Hazel Deloach.

Funeral services for Billy will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy in Baton Rouge. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. until the service time at 11:00 a.m. Interment immediately follow in Resthaven’s cemetery.
