Billy Joe Ivey, at the age of 83, went to be with his Lord. Death came late Saturday afternoon, September 6, 2025, while he was at home.
Mr. Ivey, born raised in the Doodletown community near Summerlin's Crossroads, Mount Olive, attended Rooty Branch Free Will Baptist Church with his family. In adulthood, he began his working career with Westinghouse in Raleigh, where he and his wife lived for about six years. Following this, he became employed with General Electric at Castle Hayne, where he faifhfully worked from 1968 until he retired in 2002. During this time, he and his wife lived in Wallace where they raised their family and where they became members of Wells Chapel Baptist Church.
In recent years, Mr. and Mrs. Ivey returned to the Albertson area to care for her aged mother, and after her passing, they remained in the Westbrook home.
Mr. Ivey leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Joan Westbrook Ivey; a daughter and son-in-law, Ginger Ivey Massey and Robert Massey of Wallace; a son and daughter-in-law, Billy W. Ivey and Brandi Burroughs Ivey of Mount Olive; a sister, Edna Ivey Strickland of Charlotte;a brother-in-law, the Rev. George Westbrook of Wilson; four grandchildren, Ethan Bryant and wife, Whitney Bryant of Kenansville, Mikayla Bryant and husband, Hunter Carlisle, of Supply; Tadan Ivey of Wilmington; Maddox Hamm of Mount Olive, Brandy Mulder and husband, Chris Mulder, Robert Massey II and wife, Olivia Massey, and Amber Jones and husband, Jake Jones; a great-grandchild, Aubrey Bryant; and other step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andy W. and Zora Dail Ivey; a sister, Anne Ivey Westbrook; a brother-in-law, Edward Strickland; and his father and mother-in-law, Joe and Matoaka Westbrook.
Mr. Billy Ivey was a simple man, and it was his wish that his service of remembrance be simple too. With that request, a graveside service will be Tuesday, September 9, at 11:00 a.m. at the Devotional Gardens at Warsaw. Following the service, the family will greet relatives and friends at the cemetery, and the residence is welcoming to callers as well.
