Ruby J. Kornegay

Mrs. Ruby Lee Jordan Kornegay, resident of the Rones Chapel area near Mount Olive, went to her heavenly home early Thursday morning, October 9, 2025. After a long-life of hard work and dedication, she is now at rest.
She was a native of Newton Grove and graduated from Newton Grove High School. Upon her marriage to Mr. Daniel Kornegay, she began a life of being a homemaker and farmer's wife whose main goal was providing a loving home for her family. She was a long standing member of Rones Chapel Church. Having served in many capacities through her years of membership, perhaps she was best known for heading up the bereavement committee to provide meals and other needs for grieving families within the church and community.
Mrs. Kornegay leaves behind her husband, Daniel H. Kornegay. Had she lived until October 28, they would have marked 71 years as a married couple. She is also survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy K. and Rouse Ivey, and Diane K. and Allen Best, all of the Mount Olive area; beloved grandchildren, John Daniel Ivey and wife, Rebekah, Abbie C. Ivey, Steven Best, and Karen B. Painter and husband, Marlan, all whom called her Grandmama; precious great-grandchildren who called her Great Ruby, Cresson, Johnson, and Charlotte Ivey, Matthew and Nora Williams, and Olivia Painter; a sister, Judy J. Goode of Grantham; a brother, Jimmy Jordan of Atlanta, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover C. Jordan and Annie Reaves Jordan; and seven of her nine siblings, Verna Jordan, Grover Cleveland Jordan, Jr., Betty J. Mozingo, Geraldine J. Darden, Sarah J. Tyner, Virginia J. Myers, and Perry Jordan.
The Kornegay family and the community will honor the long, well-lived life of Mrs. Kornegay on Saturday, October 11, at 4:00 p.m. with funeral services at Tyndall Funeral Home, followed by visitation. Committal rites and burial will be Sunday, October 12, at 2:00 p.m. in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive. Friends and relatives are also being received at the Kornegay residence.
