Billy Joe King, Jr., of Kingsport, Tennessee, beloved partner, son, brother, and friend, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the age of 51, after a long and difficult battle with pneumonia that went on for six months. He was strong and survived multiple setbacks which had taken a toll on his lungs and became too much for his heart.
Joe was born in Kingsport where he remained a lifelong resident. He was the loyal partner of David Hess, his significant other of 23 years, who he loved deeply. He often took time out of his day to help anyone who needed his help. He enjoyed fixing things and would often repair stuff for his family and friends. Joe had a generous spirit and a sharp and curious mind. He was caring, witty, strong-willed, and -true to himself- stubborn.
He is survived by his significant other, David Hess; his parents, Billy Joe, Sr., and Valerie “Ann” King; sister, Barbara Ann King and her husband, Jason Scoggins; nephew, Kaden Scoggins; and niece, Jaden Scoggins. He also leaves behind many cousins, friends, and loved ones who will miss his presence deeply.
The family will receive friends from 5pm – 7pm on Sunday, May 18, 2025 at Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2pm on Monday, May 19, 2025 at Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport with Rev. Ryan Shaffer officiating. Graveside services will take place following the service at Old Kingsport Presbyterian Church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Rest easy Joe. You will forever live on in our hearts and minds.
