Billy Woodrow Moss

December 11, 1944 – March 14, 2026

Billy Woodrow Moss, born December 11, 1944, in Cleveland County, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, in Lincolnton, North Carolina, at the age of 81. Known to most simply as Bill, he was a man defined by perseverance, grit, and a servant’s heart. He lived his life with quiet bravery, unwavering dedication, and an honest pride in doing things the right way. approached his commitment to family with the same passion and resolve, and he will always be remembered as a loving husband and a devoted father. 

Bill spent his professional life working as a construction engineer, foreman, and laborer—never above rolling up his sleeves and never satisfied with anything less than a job well done. Over the course of his career, he left his mark on projects across the United States, earning the respect of colleagues and friends through his diligence, skill, and unshakable work ethic. For Bill, work was not just a responsibility — it was a reflection of character.

An avid motorcycle enthusiast, Bill enjoyed the freedom of the open road and the camaraderie of close friends. He was also a devoted supporter of American Legion Baseball and a lifelong dog lover. One of his most cherished pleasures was taking his beloved Basset Hound, Jessie, on motorcycle rides to American Legion Baseball games—an example of the simple joys that made him one of a kind.

Bill was a proud member of the American Legion (Shelby Post 82) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) reflecting his deep values of service, patriotism, and community. He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow W. Moss and Pauline Moss (Chapman), and his sister, Joanne Wylie. He is survived by his son, Kevin Moss, and wife Melissa; sisters Betty Fite (Ronnie) and Wanda Hurley (Bill); brothers Douglas Moss (Margie) and Glen Moss (Diane); grandson Derek Hiler (Tatum); great-granddaughters Emma and Ella Hiler; and many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home in Shelby, NC, on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 11:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park in Boiling Springs, NC. 

Billy Woodrow Moss will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
