Mr. Billy Ray Queen, 86, of Powder Springs, Georgia, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026. Born on October 7, 1939, in Marietta, Georgia, he was the son of the late Raymond Elexander Queen and Marjorie Clarice Hopkins Queen.
Billy answered the call to serve his country as a member of the United States Army. Following his service, he built a dedicated career as a Lineman with Ford Motor Company, from which he proudly retired. Billy was a Baptist by faith, and, most recently, was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church in Douglasville, Georgia. He was a witness for his faith to everyone he met, and his faith was just as strong until the very end.
Those who knew Billy knew a man who was never happier than when he was doing exactly what he loved. He could be found casting a line on a quiet morning, tending to his yard with quiet pride, or tinkering away at whatever needed fixing — and some things that didn’t. He had a deep love for cooking and took joy in feeding the people around him. His travels to Florida, especially his cherished trips to Mexico Beach, gave him a sense of peace and renewal he carried back home with him. Billy was a sociable, warm-spirited man who drew people in and made them feel welcome — a quality that defined him as much as anything else.
Billy was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Jo Crone Queen, as well as his parents.
He is survived by his son, William Bradley Queen (Sherri), of Gray, Georgia; grandchildren, Finn Queen (Kamryn) of Texas, and Colin Queen of North Carolina; step grandsons, Chris Compton, and his daughter, Millie Compton, of Macon, as well as Nick Compton (Abby) of Tignal; brother, Jack Queen; sisters, Eula May Brown, Gladys Newton, Louise Newton, and Sherry Garrett; his fiancée, Pat Crone; as well as a host of close extended family and cherished friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Roy Davis Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 6 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Roy Davis Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Kevin Harris. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Mozley Memorial Gardens with the following serving as pallbearers: Finn Queen, Colin Queen, Mike Brown, Tom Bragg, Mike Bryant, Terry Rackley.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Queen may be mailed to Liberty Baptist Church, P.O. Box 202, Douglasville, GA, 30133.
Billy Ray Queen lived a full life — one measured not in miles or titles, but in fish caught, meals shared, and friendships kept. He will be deeply missed.
