Obituary published on Legacy.com by Greenlawn Funeral Home Branson on Feb. 17, 2026.
Billy Gene Schafer, 75, of Branson, Missouri, passed away at home on February 13, 2026, after a short illness.

Billy was born on September 14, 1950, in West Bend, Iowa, to Ernie and Wylma Schafer. When he was in junior high, his family moved to Branson, Missouri, which became his lifelong hometown. After graduating from high school, Billy was drafted into the military. He joined the United States Navy and served one tour in Vietnam.

Upon returning home, Billy began a long career as a postal worker, retiring after many years of service. In retirement, he became a referee for high school sports, staying active and involved in the community he loved.

Billy was blessed with two children, Michelle and Nick. In 2009, he married his soulmate, Julie Adams, in Phoenix, Arizona. Together they enjoyed attending horse races, traveling in their RV, cheering for their favorite sports teams, watching Nick and his children play sports, and spending time with family and friends. Billy also loved being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He had a strong faith in Christ and was a devoted member of Faith Lutheran Church in Branson.

Billy was fun-loving, loyal, and generous. He will be remembered for his strength and unwavering love for his family.

He is survived by his children, Michelle and Nick; daughter-in-law, Christie; grandchildren, Skyler Henson (Alex), Brooklyn, Madison, and Grayson Schafer; great-grandchildren, Jasper and Oliver Henson; brother, Dennis Schafer; sister, Debbie Wilson (Ed); as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernie and Wylma Schafer, and his beloved wife, Julie Adams Schafer.

A celebration of life will be held at Faith Lutheran Church. Date and time details will be shared at a later time.

His legacy of love and strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Billy will be deeply missed.
