Billy Stokes, age 90, of Emerson, Georgia passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2022. He was born on May 14, 1932 in Bridgeport, Alabama. He retired from Atlantic Steel after 34 years where he worked as a crane operator. Mr. Stokes was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Emerson and was an avid gardener. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 30 years Kathryn Walker Stokes, 2nd wife Vallie King Stokes, 3rd wife Alma Brown Stokes; 3 of his 4 children Dwight Billy Stokes, Kathy Jo Stokes Kareken and Dwayne Lemon Stokes; brothers, Tom Stokes, Sherman Stokes, Frank Stokes and Newton Stokes; sisters, Lorene "Dee' Blevins, Ida Kate Powell, Ruby Brooks, Marie "Pat" Glover, Linda Irene "Kitty" Nunley and Annie Bell Stokes. Billy was the last of 11 children born to Bartley and Maggie Stokes.
Billy is survived by, his daughter Melissa Stokes Ferguson of Emerson; his 2 daughters-in-law, Shirley Bryant Stokes of Emerson; Denise Padgett Stokes of Emerson; his son-in-law, Jim Kareken of Acworth; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; special friends, David Dotson, Gary Rainey, J. B. Evans and the staff of Doug's Place.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 27, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Collins Funeral Home in Acworth with Rev. Danny Willis officiating. Private interment will be in Liberty Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 27, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations instead be made to: Gideons International, P.O. Box 532, Cartersville, GA 30120 or if you would like you may plant a tree.
