Daisy Stokes, the daughter of the late Ella Halsey and William Blount was born on August 25th 1929 in Newark NJ. She departed this life on August 14th 2025.

Daisy graduated from Central high school in Newark NJ. and attended Newark preparatory school where she obtained a certificate in business. She then went on and took the civil service exam and entered the workforce as a clerical assistant and later on a claims representative for the Social Security Administration.

In 1950, she married the late Humphrey B. Stokes. To this union, one son was born, the late Humphrey D. Stokes.

She retired in 1985 at the age of 55. In retirement, she worked as an office manager at a doctor's office.

She became a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church at an early age. She was an active member in the church and served as an intermediate usher.

She also served as secretary of the NJ chapter of the NAACP which she was very passionate about.

Daisy loved to travel. She visited many different countries, loved to cruise and visit friends in Florida. She was an exceptional baker with her specialties being pound cake, coconut cake and key lime pie. She enjoyed baking cakes and pies for any and everyone who asked.

She loved to entertain and would host Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. One of her favorite pastimes was playing Pinochle with friends.

She leaves to cherish her memory, sister Cleo Blount; two granddaughters, Anita and Melanie Stokes; great grandson, Justin Stokes, daughter in law, Joan Stokes; cousin, Mark Redding; special cousin, Pattie Tellis; close friend, Sharon Millburn and a host of other cousins and many, many friends.
