Henderson, TN: Billy Joe "Joey" Thomas, Jr. age 65, passed away February 10, 2026, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
He was born December 4, 1960, in Jackson, TN the son of the late Billy Joe Thomas, Sr. and Linda Gail (Simmons) Phillips of Jackson. Joey graduated from Southside High School in 1979. He started working at Simmons Lumber Company, and Diebold; then The Garden Apartments of New Albany, and then started his own business “Thomas Complete Home Maintenance.”
Joey was a hard worker all of his life. He loved to play guitar, and passed his passion down to his sons. He loved riding anything with two wheels, and maybe even one when he would show off on a unicycle.
Joey was a people person and loved getting a reaction out of people.
He also enjoyed spending time on the TN River with his family, fishing, and being outdoors. He was referred to as "Poppy" by his grandchildren.
Mr. Thomas is survived by three sons, Joseph Shane Thomas of Cedar Grove, TN, Matthew Adam Thomas of Knoxville and Justin William Thomas (Lacy) of Bartlett, TN and a daughter, Angela Michelle Smith (Ben) of New Albany, MS; seven grandchildren, Keely Shay Campbell, Jordan James Pruitt, Ellie Thomas, Cayden Thomas, Noah Lindley, Brylee Smith and Sydney Smith and two great grandchildren, Eli Campbell and Josie Campbell; two brothers, Cabot Thomas (Stephanie) of Germantown and Todd Thomas of Denver, CO, a sister Sheila Robertson of SC, Karen Thomas the mother of Justin and Angela, and Donna Meyer the mother of Matthew and Shane.
He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Joe Thomas, Sr. (2021) and a brother, Tyler Thomas (2010).
Funeral services will be 2:00 Friday, February 13th at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Joe Blackley officiating. Burial will follow at Haltom Chapel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for visitation at Crook Avenue 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Friday.
