Billy Wolfe Obituary

Visit the Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah website to view the full obituary.
Billy Wolfe, born on Saturday, August 7, 1926, went to be with the Lord on December 3, 2025 at 99 years of age. His parents, Walker Risden Wolfe and Minnie Belle Moore Wolfe, lived on the family farm purchased in 1917 in the Robertson Chapel "Bucktown" Community. Billy attended school at Berlin along with brother, Douglas born in 1929. They grew up in this farming community of family members and friends.
He honorably served in WWII in the 1st Calvary division in the Philippines and later in the occupation of Japan. He returned home to Hardin County in 1946. A man with few words to say about his war time experiences, was a patriot receiving 2 Bronze Stars.
Dorothy Jean Gray and Billy were married in Corinth, Mississippi in 1947. They were married for 76 years.
He is survived by his children, Diane Dennis (Mike), Michael Wolfe (Belinda), and Ricky Lee Wolfe; grandsons, Vance Dennis (Ashley), Lane Dennis (Beth), and Zachary Wolfe (Tonya); and great grandchildren, Walker Dennis, William Dennis, Woodson Walls, Annalane Dennis, Emmitt Dennis, and Kinsley Wolfe.
He worked for Brown Shoe Company in Savannah for 36 years and retired in 1988. He also had a small farm at that time.
After retirement, his favorite hobbies included gardening, always sharing produce with neighbors. Riding horses on the Old Survey Trail was often enjoyed with family and neighbors. Mowing and maintaining a perfect lawn was a great enjoyment. Also fishing with a favorite cousin, LV Hurst, was enjoyed. Many neighbors and others spent much time congregated at Pete's Tractor Service to exchange news and just "hang out" in the Mt. Hermon Community.
Billy became a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in 1957.
In addition to his wife and parents, Billy was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Wolfe; sister, Effie Jean Williams; infant son, Billy Ray Wolfe; granddaughters, Gina Dennis Walls and Christie Story Patterson; and great grandson, Rhett Dennis.
The family would like to thank Arden Hospice for their outstanding care, especially Mallory Cherry, Tina Robinson, Gracie Pruitt, and Destiny Highland.
Memorial Donations may be made to: Darryl Worley Foundation, 325 Main Street, Savannah, Tennessee 38372. Specify: Cancer Center.
