Beulah “Birdie” Metheney, 93, of Creston, passed away peacefully at home with her family at her side on Monday, Nov. 3, 2025, after a brief illness.
Birdie was born on Sept. 28, 1932, in Chloe, WV to Rentis and Effie (Shaffer) Jarvis and attended Grantsville High School. On Nov. 15, 1952, she married Dewey Daris Metheney and Dewey preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 2008. Birdie had worked at Regal Ware in Wooster for 11 years and sold Avon and made doughnuts at Winkler’s Grocery in Creston. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest enjoyment, and she also enjoyed her flowers.
Surviving are her four children, Belinda Kelly, Christie and her husband Jim Brannam, Kathie and her husband Darrell Smith and Darius Metheney and his fiancé Lisa Rupp; 9 grandchildren and their spouses, Scott and Denise Kelly, Jeff and Dawn Kelly, Tammy Kelly, Jeramie and Ali Maxwell, Mike and Dusty Smith, Missy and Casey Jarvis, Mitchell and Lauren Metheney, Michael and Bethany Metheney and Lyndsea and Ryan Hughes; 15 great-grandchildren and a sister, Merlene Drake.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dewey, daughter-in-law, Denise Metheney, son-in-law, Chris Kelly, sister, Eula Rader and brothers, Vance, Denver, Harold, Gene, Lester, Dale, Spencer and Jennings Jarvis.
Private family services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 6th. Burial will be in Creston Maple Mound Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
