Biru Gan, a beacon of faith and love, was called home by her Lord and Savior on January 31, 2026. Born on July 28, 1934, in Nanjing, China, Biru's journey through life was a testament to her unwavering spirit and her commitment to her family, her students, and her faith. She completed her earthly chapter at Boston Medical Center - South in
Brockton, Massachusetts, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and devotion.
Biru's early years were spent in the vibrant city of Nanjing, where she cultivated a passion for mathematics that would shape her future. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Southwest Normal University in Chongqing and her Master's from East China Normal University in Shanghai. Biru's love for the subject was only matched by her desire to share it with others, a calling she fulfilled as a college math professor at Anhui Normal University in Wuhu, China. She was a cherished educator who not only taught equations and theorems but also imparted wisdom and inspired her students to strive for excellence.
In her personal life, Biru was a loving wife to her late husband, Yongshi Yang, and a nurturing mother to her three sons, Rixin, Yichong, and Quansheng Yang. Her family was her pride and joy, and she instilled in them the values of hard work, respect, and compassion. Even as her sons grew and built their own lives, the bonds of love and mutual support remained unbroken.
As a devout Christian, Biru's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She found solace and strength in reading and studying the Bible, drawing from its pages the wisdom to navigate life's challenges. Her faith was evident in her daily actions, always guided by the teachings of Christ. She was highly engaged in her church community, embodying the scripture, "And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love." (1 Corinthians 13:13).
Those who knew Biru would describe her as kind, faith-filled, and loving - a woman whose gentle demeanor and generous heart touched many lives. Her ability to see the good in people and situations, coupled with her unwavering optimism, made her a source of comfort and encouragement to all who crossed her path.
As we bid farewell to Biru Gan, we celebrate a life well-lived, a course faithfully run, and a legacy of love that will continue to shine in the hearts of those she left behind. We take comfort in knowing that she has found eternal peace and rest in the arms of her Creator.
Biru Gan's life was a reflection of the words of Mother Teresa, "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love." Indeed, Biru did countless small things with the greatest of love, and for that, she will be forever remembered and cherished.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Saturday, February 7th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Chinese Church of Metro-South Boston, 383 Old Post Road, Sharon, MA 02067.
