BJ Whitley, 67, from Garner, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at his home. Born July 24, 1958, he was the son of the late Bill and Shelby Whitley. In addition to his parents, BJ was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Wayne Whitley and Mark Timothy Whitley.

BJ was someone who thrived in the great outdoors. Whether he was camping beneath the stars or casting a line at the water's edge, spending time in nature brought him pure joy. He had a hands-on passion for cars, especially when it came to working on his dad's classic El Camino. He also loved riding his motorcycle. BJ enjoyed racing and was a big fan of Dale Earnhardt. He enjoyed watching sports, rooting for the Washington Redskins/Commanders and his local team, NC State. BJ cherished spending time with his siblings, children, grandchildren, and most of all, his beloved wife Shelby.

BJ is survived by his loving wife, Shelby Whitley; daughters, Amy Whitley, Ashley Whitley, Cecilia Varnam (William), and Stephanie Lane; brothers, Samuel Whitley and Vincent Whitley (Dawn); sister, Sylvia Evans (Delton); and grandchildren, Madison, Callie, and Aiden.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 2:00pm in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors one-hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00pm. The family will also receive visitors following the service at the family home. Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions can be made to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle Raleigh, NC 27607.
