Robert Walter "Bob" Angerer, 89, of Jefferson City, died on March 7, 2025 at Primrose Retirement Community in Jefferson City.
He was born in Jefferson City on March 28, 1935, the son of Walter Angerer and Antonia (Probst) Angerer. He was married on August 17, 1957 to Yvonne Koch, who survives at Primrose Retirement Community.
Bob attended Trinity Lutheran School and Simonsen Junior High School, where he was Student Body President. He graduated from Jefferson City Senior High in 1953, where he attained National Honor Society and lettered in football and basketball. Bob was a delegate to Boys State. He belonged to the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 8, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He was very active in Cub and Boy Scouts with his sons.
Bob graduated from the University of Missouri in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He was a member of Chi Epsilon, National Civil Engineering honor society and Tau Beta Pi and National Engineering Honor Society.
Bob served two years as a naval officer, stationed primarily at the Naval Construction Battalion Center at Port Hueneme, Calif. and at the Naval Air Station, Whidbey Island, Oak Harbor, Washington. He was a registered professional engineer and was employed at the Missouri State Highway Department in highway design from 1959 until his retirement in 1994.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as an usher for many years and was a member of the "We're Thinkin" Sunday school class.
In his earlier years he enjoyed fishing, hunting, softball and later stayed active playing tennis and golf. Bob was a rock enthusiast and enjoyed collecting, cutting and polishing gemstones. Bob was an avid reader, but his greatest hobby was gardening. He was a Master Gardener, belonged to the Men's Garden Club and belonged to the Learning in Retirement group. During the winter months Bob grew plants for the Memorial Park Men's Garden Club project and for his church gardens. He generously gave his plants to other gardeners.
In his later years, he and his wife were avid travelers and gardeners. They made numerous trips abroad, mainly to Western Europe, including flower garden tours. During this time, he spent many hours assisting in the maintenance of flower beds at Memorial Park and his church. He and his wife were proud to open their home garden for tours numerous times. Bob enjoyed sharing his slide shows of travel and garden tours with numerous organizations.
Bob was a wonderful husband, a beloved dad, and a doting grandfather "Opa." His generosity extended to his grandchildren as they were always excited to get to share Opa's candy stash when visiting. He was a humble, selfless, brilliant and witty family man who was the happiest being in his home and garden with his family.
Survivors include Yvonne C. Angerer his wife of 67 years; his sons, Robert D. Angerer of Overland Park, Kansas and Karl Angerer of Kansas City, Mo., his grandsons, Roan Angerer and Van Angerer of Kansas City, Mo.; and his nephew, Jay Sifford, of Charlotte, NC.
Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Verna Angerer Sifford and nephew, Grant Sifford, of Charlotte, NC.
