Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory - Crystal LakeRobert Aaron Carty, 49 of Crystal Lake, IL passed away on Monday, June 23 2025.
Robert was born on June 15th, 1976 in Maryland to Thomas Carty and Patricia Carty. When Robert was 3 years old, the Carty family moved to Crystal Lake, Il where he lived most of his life.
Robert (Bob) graduated from Crystal Lake Central High School and went on to attend college at Illinois State University in Bloomington-Normal, IL where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business. Bob was always a busy body and appreciated the value of hard work. Upon graduation from college, he and his father Tom started a home improvement business which they both continued to work in together for over two decades.
Growing up, Bob was known for his independent spirit, often insisting on figuring most things out on his own. He also had a great sense of humor. He was also known for being a good athlete and excelled at both baseball and soccer. He played competitively in travel soccer leagues throughout his youth and was elevated to the varsity squad as a sophomore in high school. He was extremely fast and had great ball skills, which made him a scoring threat in just about every soccer match. In college, although Illinois State did not have an organized hockey team at the University, Bob joined the private student hockey league as a freshman and excelled as winger.
Bob married Currens Barchard of Crystal Lake, Il and they had two sons, Colton and Stiles where they lived on the North Shore of Crystal Lake. As a painting professional, Bob met some of the members of the painter’s union who specialized in building sets and artistic scenery for the motion pictures. Bob quickly learned that Chicago, Illinois is a hub for movies and television film studios and over the years Bob worked his way up into working on several movies and shows as an assistant lead painter. Some of the movies Bob worked on included Superman Man of Steel with Henry Cavill and Amy Adams, and Public Enemies starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale. He also worked for several seasons on the sets of Chicago Fire and The Chi which both became very successful shows with Chicago Fire still creating new seasons.
Bob was also a member of the Resurrection Catholic Church located in Woodstock, Il. He enjoyed setting the Christmas lights with the members there and fostered several relationships with many long-standing members of the church.
Bob is survived by his father Thomas A Carty, his brother’s Thomas E. Carty (Susan) and Daniel R. Carty (Casey) and his two sons Colton and Stiles Carty.
Bob will be remembered by his friends and family for his energy and drive as well as his sense of humor.
In Bob’s memory, take a moment away from all the serious things that can consume your day and share a laugh with a coworker, friend, or loved one. Bob was always looking for a laugh.
A visitation will be held Friday, August 8th from 4pm to 7pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home in Crystal Lake, IL, with a mass to follow the next day at 1pm at St. Patrick Catholic Church located at 708 W. Main Street in Urbana, IL 61801.
