Bob Hedderman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Atamaniuk Funeral Home, Inc. on Jun. 14, 2024.
Robert Michael "Bob" Hedderman died on June 29, 2023 in Brattleboro, Vt, after a year long decline in health. He was 84.
Bob was born on December 6, 1938 in Elmhurst, Queens, NY to Margaret (Walsh) Hedderman and Martin Hedderman. He was the youngest of their 3 children.
He attended St. Bartholomew's Catholic Academy in Elmhurst Queens, Most Holy Trinity High School in Brooklyn, and several semesters at St. Francis College in Brooklyn, before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in 1958. He was trained as a radio intercept operator and assigned to Hokkaido Air Force Base in Japan where he served for 5 years, having re-upped.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he returned to New York where he enrolled in Columbia University to formally study the Japanese language, calligraphy, and culture. He worked for several years with his father at the The Frick Art Reference Library. He then took a job at Bell Security where he had a long career, retiring as an account manager in the mid 2000"s.
He had a lifelong love of baseball; enjoyed watching the NY Mets, as well as college and professional basketball, a sport he played in High School, College, and the Air Force. He was an avid swimmer; loved music, especially classical; and enjoyed writing including limericks in his later years. He was a great storyteller with a wonderful sense of humor.
In 2016 Bob and his wife moved to Brattleboro Vermont, and in 2021 to Vernon, VT.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Margaret (Hedderman) Canal, and his brother Martin "Buddy" Hedderman.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 39 years, Grace (Shankland) Hedderman, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
